-- Austrian member of European parliament (MEP) Ulrike Lunacek believes that Serbia should annul a verdict its courts passed against Hashim Thaci.
Lunacek, who is EP's rapporteur for Kosovo, stated that the verdict was passed "during the rule of Slobodan Milosevic."

- The Belgrade authorities should annul the warrant for the arrest of the minister of foreign affairs of Kosovo which dates back to the time of Milosevic - said Lunacek during her trip to Pristina on Tuesday, the Albanian publication Balkanweb reported.

Lunacek was taking part in a gathering organized by a youth NGO when she said that Serbia should, when it comes to Thaci "act the same" as in the case of former British prime minister and current adviser to many governments, Tony Blair.

PM Vucic commented Lunacek's statement and said that the decision about eventual annul will be made by independent state institutions.

Thaci, a former leader of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) was in 1998 put on trial in absentia by the Pristina District Court and sentenced to ten years in prison on terrorism charges. The following year the Serbian Supreme Court confirmed the ruling.

This ruling and a warrant for his arrest came into the limelight earlier this month when it was announcement that the deputy prime minister of the self-proclaimed state of Kosovo could travel to Belgrade "as a diplomat."

Serbian officials responded by saying they would act according to the law and arrest Thaci if he appeared in Belgrade. Afterwards, the NGO that organizes the gathering announced that the invitation had been withdrawn.
