Macedonia Cancels €70m Loan for Showpiece Medical Centre
Macedonia is cancelling a 70-million-euro loan from the Council of Europe Development Bank until it reworks the flawed project plan for the construction of a brand-new medical centre in Skopje.

He said that from September, the government, helped by experts from the European Commission will seek out an alternative location and draw up a new project plan for a showpiece medical centre that will truly satisfy the country’s needs.
The old project plan “was not a good and appropriate project for a modern hospital, which was confirmed by the people from the bank in Paris”, Tevdovski said.
“They were aware that they granted the loan without a proper analysis of the health system,” he added.
If all goes according to plan, the new project plan will be unveiled by the end of this year.
The former government led by right-wing VMRO DPMNE originally unveiled its plan to build a new modern clinical centre in 2013.
The plan was to construct an eight-storey building in the same location as the existing centre, where some of the buildings and infrastructure date back to the years just after World War II....
